84-86 Mustang SVO Reproduction Spats

We first started producing our SVO spats in 2000 and have been making them ever since. We make this to order because it is such a limited market and there is no real way to judge demand. These are made from hand laid fiberglass and are designed to be a lifetime part unlike the originals that dry out and fall apart. Ford had 2 different runs of these from their manufacturer and were made out of urethane but the chemical composition between the E4ZX and later E5ZX spats were different and the E5ZX spats started falling apart over 25 years ago...even cars stored indoors with low mileage suffer from this problem. The E4ZX spats have lasted far longer but we are now seeing some of those starting to fall apart.

We chose to make these out of fiberglass because it is a lifetime part at that point. Another reason was it makes them easily modified to work on other Mustangs that are not SVOs which helps preserve some of the remaining used parts if you just have to have original. Nobody can tell these aren't original once installed unless they touch and push on them...but given the fragile nature of the originals nobody wants to be "that guy" that just put their finger through someone's spats on their SVO.

Here is an example of our spats modified to be used on a different Mustang. The top was shortened to work with the wider body side molding and the leading edge was shaped in so that the SVO rocker moldings were not needed. This is huge because those rocker moldings and clips are difficult to find. This was added to Jason Lawely's Pacemaker Mustang, he attends a lot of shows so it's easy for you to see these in person if you catch him at a show.

We include an instruction sheet with the spats, you do not need to use the original curved bracket, we just add a layer or two of 3M double sided tape on the curved edge and that is really just to keep dirt from getting behind it, the factory shouldered screws secure the top and bottom and it's very rigid with just those. If however, you wish to use the original bracket you will need to glue it to the spat as it is impossible to recreate a flexible lip in a fiberglass mold.

Lead time can vary and sometimes runs beyond our planned timeframe depending on my manufacturers workload as he produces products for many others as well. We only have 1 mold so these are made one pair at a time, and we do them in batches to cut down on shipping costs which would add to the price if we did them individually.
